Cork County Council has officially launched its Local Festival and Event Fund for 2025, aimed at enhancing local culture and boosting tourism in the region. This initiative is designed to support a diverse range of festivals and events that celebrate Cork’s unique identity, stimulate economic growth, and draw domestic visitors.

The fund offers financial assistance to event organisers, enabling them to extend the tourism season and create lasting benefits for their communities. Grants of up to €6,000 are available, providing valuable resources to help festivals thrive and promote local engagement.

Support for a Variety of Events

The Local Festival and Event Fund is inclusive, catering to an array of celebrations, including heritage festivals, music events, food fairs, family-oriented activities, Halloween celebrations, and sporting events. This broad scope reflects the council’s commitment to fostering a vibrant cultural scene that resonates with both locals and visitors.

To qualify for funding, applicants must meet specific criteria, including generating a minimum of 150 visitor bed nights in paid accommodation and demonstrating a minimum event expenditure of €7,500. Additionally, events must occur within the geographical boundaries of Cork County.

    Promoting Sustainable Practices

In an effort to encourage responsible event planning, the fund also offers an optional supplementary grant for festivals and events that showcase a commitment to sustainable practices. This initiative underscores the importance of environmental and social sustainability, encouraging organisers to incorporate eco-friendly measures into their events.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Joe Carroll, emphasised the significance of festivals in energising communities across the region. “Festivals breathe life into our communities, reflecting who we are and offering essential support to local businesses,” he stated. The mayor further highlighted that the fund, backed by Fáilte Ireland, plays a crucial role in sustaining Cork’s rich cultural celebrations and making the county a year-round destination for domestic visitors.

    Key Dates and Application Process

Applications for the Local Festival and Event Fund 2025 are now open, with a closing date set for Monday, January 20, 2025. This timeline allows event organisers ample opportunity to prepare their submissions and align their projects with the fund’s objectives.

For more information and to apply for funding, interested parties can visit Cork County Council’s official website at www.corkcoco.ie.

A Bright Future for Festivals in Cork

The launch of the Local Festival and Event Fund represents a significant investment in the cultural and economic future of Cork County. By supporting local festivals and events, the council aims to create a thriving atmosphere that celebrates the region’s heritage and attracts visitors from across the country.

This initiative not only enhances the community spirit but also supports local economies, ensuring that Cork remains a vibrant and inviting destination for all.
