The HSE Mental Health Services Sligo Leitrim team has proudly secured the prestigious Mental Health Initiative of the Year award at the 2024 Irish Healthcare Awards. This recognition comes in light of their groundbreaking development of a Person Centred Mental Health Crisis Resolution Team, which has shown remarkable success in enhancing mental health care delivery in the region.

The awards ceremony took place on December 4 at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre, where the achievements of the healthcare community were celebrated. With over 500 healthcare professionals in attendance, the event highlighted the significant strides made in improving patient care and addressing pressing health issues across Ireland.

    A Focus on Crisis Resolution

Judges praised the Sligo Leitrim initiative as an “excellent initiative to address crisis resolution,” noting the evident reduction in hospital admissions associated with its implementation. The team’s approach aligns with Sláintecare policy, emphasising community-based care and enhancing the overall user experience beyond traditional emergency care pathways.

Dr Elizabeth Gethins, Consultant Psychiatrist with the Crisis Resolution Team, expressed her delight at receiving this esteemed award. “The team was thrilled to be honoured with this award,” she remarked. “A lot of hard work went into establishing the crisis resolution team, and this win validates all that effort. We continue to be privileged to work with people when they are at their most vulnerable; that’s what this service is ultimately all about.”

    Celebrating Excellence in Healthcare

The Irish Healthcare Awards, now in their 23rd year, serve to recognise and reward excellence within the healthcare sector. The awards focus on innovation, achievement, and initiatives that enhance the patient journey, spotlighting the dedication of individuals and organisations striving to improve healthcare services in Ireland.

A panel of more than 25 esteemed judges, comprising respected physicians, educators, patient advocates, medical journalists, and pharmaceutical industry representatives, meticulously reviewed the numerous entries. The recognition of the HSE Mental Health Services Sligo Leitrim for their Person Centred Mental Health Crisis Resolution Team underscores the transformative impact of this initiative on mental health care.

Irish Healthcare Award – Looking Ahead

As the Sligo Leitrim Mental Health team celebrates this achievement, they remain committed to providing high-quality mental health services and supporting individuals during critical times. The success of their Crisis Resolution Team is a testament to their dedication to enhancing mental health support and fostering community well-being.
